OPAC CONDEMNS ARREST, TORTURE OF IT’S MEMBER, PRECIOUS NWADIKE

PRESS RELEASE

ORLU POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (OPAC)

RE; ARREST, TORTURE AND INTIMIDATION OF OUR MEMBER, COMRADE PRECIOUS NWADIKE CONDEMNED

Our attention has been drawn to the purported arrest of our brother and member of this committee, COMRADE PRECIOUS NWADIKE during his political consultations with members of the Timber Dealers Association in Orlu LGA.

Available information to us suggest that some men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police stormed the venue of his meeting with members of the association shooting sporadically into the air, pointing and hitting a gun at him, before forcefully whisking him away.

This raised the initial fear from our members and the public who were intimated about the arrest that our member may have been kidnapped until a call came to us that he was actually arrested by the Police from the state’s command and accused of staging an “unlawful gathering”.

A release by Precious Nwadike’s Support group/Campaign Organisation known as “Our Orlu Project” alleged that our member and “brother was thrown into a cell with clothes all removed. He was humiliated, ordered to be beaten by inmates and almost killed until a visitor to the station, HON. MARCEL ODUNZE; the member representing Orlu in the Imo House of Assembly intervened and requested that our young aspirant be released”

While we use this medium to appreciate and thank our brother, Hon. Odunze for his role in ensuring the timely release of Comrade Nwadike, we wish to appeal to the amiable Commissioner of Police in Imo and the Inspector-General of Police to please wade into this and investigate those behind this show of shame against our democracy. We also appeal to all well-meaning Nigerians and individuals of Imo to rise in unison and condemn this brazen display of hooliganism by people who are supposed to protect society, defend humanity and our democracy.

The public, as well as members of OPAC have every reason to fear very seriously that elements opposed to democracy may have infiltrated the Nigeria Police in Imo state and are being used to perpetrate illegalities and go after perceived political opponents of their contractors.

It is on record that COMRADE PRECIOUS NWADIKE recently alleged that some persons are after his life and plotting to kill him because of his position on certain issues against the government of the day in Imo. While OPAC will always insist on peace and harmonious co-existence among politicians, especially those of them from our Orlu zone, we are also concerned about recent political killings in our zone and hereby call for a halt by perpetrators.

Beauty of democracy is in the kite perching and allowing the eagle to perch. Kings are made by God through the people. Let no man destroy he that has never been destroyed by nature, for in praises 2019 shall end.

God bless OPAC! God Bless Orlu!!

Signed:

COMRADE GREG NWADIKE             COMRADE GOZIE NWAGBA

(DIRECTOR OF PUBLICITY, OPAC)     (PRESIDENT, OPAC)
