All endorsements garnered by Mr. Uche Nwosu, the Chief of Staff to the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha has been described as “dead on arrival” as the process did not meet up with set standard of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This position was disclosed to gregnwadikeblog.com by the State’s Publicity Secretary of the APC in Imo state, Engr. Nwabueze Ogushienti in a chat after the Imo APC Stakeholders Conference held Sunday !8th of March 2018 at the Concorde Hotel, Owerri in Imo state.
Governor Rochas Okorocha was not present at the meeting, giving impetus to an earlier speculation that the governor would boy-cut the meeting as he failed to get the party officials to convane the meeting at the Government House under his watch.
The Publicity Secretary emphasised that the party has set rules in its constitution for the emergence of candidates of the party, adding that whoever that currently parades self as the endorsed candidate of the party stands the risk of being sanctioned.
“The APC is a party run purely by law. we have our guidelines; our constitution. Anything that falls short of this well-spelt guideline or constitution is neither here nor there. so the issue of endorsements as been clamoured by some people does not even arise because it does not reflect in our constitution. You can say that endorsement, as far as I am concerned is dead on arrival because no party officer in APC can openly endorse anybody. If you do that you risk suspension.
“For us as party officers, we want as many aspirants as possible. And for us as party officers, all our aspirants are our babies; they are all our children. At the appropriate time, we go through the clearly well spelt out constitutional provision on how you emerge as a candidate. And whoever that emerges as the candidate is then carried as our candidate for the main election and when we do that, it will be clear to everybody that election had held”, he said.
Ogushienti said there was no cause for alarm over the absence of the governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha at the meeting adding that his Deputy, Mr. Eze Madumere adequately represented him and that the party leadership was also informed of his absence.
“Everybody who is who, including the National Organising Secretary who is the highest political office holder of the APC in Imo state, Sen. Osita Izunaso were all in attendance, so there is nothing really missing”, he said.
The APC spokesman maintained that the party is prepared to get things right before the general elections so that it does not lose out in the election.
He assured a level playing ground for all aspirants in the party in the state, and called on the public to bear with them even as the party goes through its turbulent time in history.
The Imo state’s chapter of the party met at its stakeholders’ level yesterday in Owerri to among other things review the state of the party and plan on how best to deliver the party given its fictionalised state in recent months resulting from the endorsements of Mr. Uche Nwosu as sole guber candidate of the party by the governor.
