‘If you vote, you will die’ – IPOB tells voters
Not even threats from the Nigeria Military or its proscription by the Nigeria Government could deter members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from staging protests and match along Onitsha streets warning on Anambra people to stay away from the Anambra Guber election coming up on 18th of November, 2017.
Members of the group were seen on a video obtained by our correspondent and now trending online marching yesterday across major roads in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State with their key message that Anambrarians should boycott the election, threatening that whoever votes would die.
This development is arising when preparations for the Anambra polls are in high gear.
A background voice in the video said: “Today, the 10th day of November, we are here to tell the people we are not afraid of the zoo.
“We are not terrorists. As you can see, there will be no election. We are not going to vote. We are not going to participate.
“As you can see, we are formidable.
“We want the federal government to produce Nnamdi kanu with immediate effect or there will be no peace.
“Come vote and die. If you vote, you will die.”
Recall that the National Coordinator of the Election Monitor, Abiodun Ajijola, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all security agencies in the country to aggressively assure voters that the November 18, governorship elections in the state will take place as scheduled.
He said this against the backdrop of reports that some sinister groups in the state have embarked on a door-to-door campaign to dissuade voters from turning out en masse to cast their votes during the governorship election.
Speaking to our correspondent by Prince Emma Kanu, the younger brother to the “missing” leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, he said IPOB was never dead in the first place and will never die.
“It is wrong to say that the group had resurrected. What you are saying is that IPOB died in the first place. No. IPOB never died. Members of IPOB are more intelligent than most of you imagined. IPOB is formidable, but peaceful. IPOB is not a terrorist organisation.
“It is a collective conscience of a people for freedom, self actualisation and self-determination. IPOB can only die when you erase every Igbo soul from the face of the earth. If you simply let one; just one soul of an Igbo man live, then you have let IPOB live”, he said.
